Communication Options - Digital Camera Tab

The Digital Camera tab is for configuration of temporary and permanent folders for automatically attaching digital photographs to records (see Attaching a Digital Photograph).

Digital .JPG photographs taken by a digital camera can be attached to records both manually and automatically. In order to attach digital photographs automatically, the digital camera must be configured to save photographs directly to a temporary folder on the computer hard drive or network. You may need to check the user’s manual of your digital camera to learn how to configure it to store files directly to a computer as the pictures are taken.

Digital photographs are not stored within the At Your Service database, but are instead recorded as the path and filename of the location where the actual file is stored. Therefore, a folder must also be configured that is accessible by all users where photos can be permanently stored.

Digital camera communication options are available only for licensed users of version 2.5 and higher, and are not available in the Repair Lite and Repair Micro editions.

Description

Path for Temporary Photos

Enter the folder where the digital camera automatically stores digital pictures as they are taken, or click the button to navigate and select a folder. On a network, the folder name will automatically be formatted using the universal naming convention (i.e. \\servername\pathname).

If each workstation has its own digital camera connected, then this folder should be configured uniquely for each workstation.

If multiple workstations are sharing a single digital camera then this folder should be a network folder to which all of those workstations have access. Since digital photographs are automatically attached based on the most recent date and time stamp then when multiple workstations share a single digital camera, there will need to be coordination so that the most recent photograph is attached in a timely manner before other users attempt to attach another photograph.

If multiple users are running the software via a Citrix Presentation Server client, each with their own digital camera on their local workstation, then it is recommended that all users have the same Citrix session drive letter mapped to the appropriate folder on their local hard drive, and then that drive letter be entered here.

If not every picture taken will be attached then click the  button to clear all remaining digital photograph files from the temporary photos folder and its immediate subfolders.

Path for Permanent Photos

Enter the folder where the renamed and attached digital photos are to be stored permanently, or click the button to navigate and select a folder. On a network, the folder name will automatically be formatted using the universal naming convention (i.e. \\servername\pathname). In a multi-user system, this should be a network folder to which all users have access.
